Release: Full Agenda for the CPLC Research Conference

The CPLC Secretariat has released the full agenda for the CPLC Research Conference that is taking place on February 14-15 in New Delhi, India. The Conference will open with a keynote from Chair of the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics and Co-Chair of the High-Level Commission on Carbon Prices, Lord Nicolas Stern, and then proceed to a packed agenda of plenaries, panels, and discussions. The CPLC Research Conference Co-Chairs, Andrei Marcu and Michael Mehling, will set the context and lay out the goals for the Conference.

The first day will focus on three themes: 1) Learning from Experience; 2) Carbon Pricing Design; and, 3) Concepts and Methods. The sessions will be chaired by members of the CPLC Research Conference’s Scientific Committee and feature perspectives from three authors of cutting-edge carbon pricing research. The day will also include a one-hour session entitled Conversation on Article 6: Lessons from Katowice.

The second day will open with a plenary on Carbon Pricing in Practice: Experiences from Around the World featuring representatives from Sweden, Mexico, Canada, the World Bank, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the World Resources Institute. The final day will focus on three new themes: 1) Political Economy; 2) Decarbonizing the Economy; and, 3) Emerging Frontiers. The Conference will close with remarks from World Bank Senior Director for Climate Change, John Roome.

At a moment of urgency for climate action, the research from both modeling carbon pricing approaches and their real-world implementation will help bridge the gap between theory and practice and inform future decisions taken by policymakers and corporate leaders. The CPLC Research Conference will bring together a diverse group of researchers, practitioners, advocates, and emerging leaders to further develop the knowledge base necessary to advance ambitious carbon pricing.
