CPLC Third High-Level Assembly 2018
Advancing climate action through carbon pricing: challenges, opportunities and solutions

On behalf of CPLC co-chairs Feike Sijbesma and Catherine McKenna, and the World Bank Group, we would like to invite you to participate in the third annual CPLC High-Level Assembly (HLA) meeting in Washington, DC on April 19, 2018. The High-Level Assembly will take place as part of the World Bank Group/International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings, and will bring together leaders from government, private sector, and civil society organizations.
The HLA provides an opportunity to report back on the achievements of the CPLC and to recognize new developments, commitments, or plans for new action. It also provides an opportunity to discuss strategic issues that will shape the continued advancement of the carbon pricing agenda. We hope to welcome the participation of new stakeholders and representatives of jurisdictions that have recently made bold steps in this area.
Participants include finance and environment ministers from around the globe, CEOs of major multinational companies, and heads of international and regional organizations including civil society.
The HLA will feature remarks from World Bank Group President Jim Kim, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde and Deputy Secretary General of the UN, Amina Mohamed.
The discussion will focus on two main questions:
How can we effectively communicate the opportunities and benefits of carbon pricing across regions and sectors?
How can we address the concerns of business and industry, especially those that are the energy intensive and trade exposed, relating to carbon pricing in their sectors or regions?
All partners are invited to participate in the HLA, with priority given to senior-level representatives around the table. An overflow room will be available for all other participants.
The HLA will be followed by a cocktail reception at 1700-1900hrs in the Executive Dining room area on level C1.
CPLC Technical Workshop

On April 20th, the CPLC will organize a full day workshop to discuss the work plan and strategic outlook for the CPLC as well as to present the work on the carbon pricing and maritime sector. A draft agenda for the day will be uploaded shortly on the CPLC website.

A Spring Meetings badge is required for all attendees to enter the WBG and IMF facilities throughout the week of the Spring Meetings. All participants must be accredited before the Meetings, and are strongly encouraged to register as early as possible to avoid delays.
